Stephen Gillett, previously the CIO of Starbucks for four years, has taken on a new position with Google's X lab, the technology company's research and development lab, reports The Wall Street Journal.
X, formerly known as Google X, is a moonshot factory where big ideas attempt to solve even bigger problems.
Mr. Gillett joins X as a senior leader. He is an investment advisor to Google Ventures and is also on the board of Chipotle Mexican Grill. He previously served as CIO and general manager of digital ventures at Starbucks for four years. He also was president of digital, marketing and operations at Best Buy and held senior positions at Yahoo! and CNET networks.
"Stephen is a natural fit for the X moonshot factory," a spokesperson from X told WSJ, saying Mr. Gillett is a "maven across many industries."
