The U.S. Government Accountability Office has appointed three members to the Health Information Technology Policy Committee.
Gene Dodaro, Comptroller General of the U.S. and head of the GAO, made the announcement. Mr. Dodaro is responsible for filling 13 of the 20 positions on the committee.
James Ferguson will take the position representing payers. Mr. Ferguson currently serves as a fellow of the Institute for Health Policy and vice president of HIT Strategy and Policy at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente.
Carolyn Petersen will serve as an advocate for patients and consumers. Ms. Peterson is the senior editor for Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic's website, Mayoclinic.org.
Karen van Caulil, PhD, will fill the position representing employers. Among other positions, Dr. van Caulil currently serves as president and CEO of the Florida Health Coalition, a business organization that represents 2 million people.
