A taskforce assembled by the Federal Communications Commission has offered five recommendations calling for the FCC to have a strong role in accelerating the adoption of mobile health, wireless health and e-care technologies in the U.S. healthcare system.
The mHealth Task Force's report derives from months of extensive industry outreach, work group meetings, online collaboration and input from many stakeholders across the spectrum of healthcare. The report included the following five goals:
1. The FCC should continue to play a leadership role in advancing mobile health adoption.
2. Federal agencies should increase collaboration to promote innovation, protect patient safety and avoid regulatory duplication.
3. The FCC should build on existing programs and link programs where possible in order to expand broadband access for healthcare.
4. The FCC should continue efforts to increase capacity, reliability, interoperability and safety of mHealth technologies.
5. The industry should support continued investment, innovation and job creation in the growing mobile health sector.
The goal of the report and its recommendations is to make wireless health and e-care solutions readily available as part of best practices for medical care by 2017.
