Providence Health & Services, a nonprofit health system based in Renton, Wash., has a $150 million, 100-employee capital arm: Providence Ventures, according to a GeekWire report.
Here are four things to know.
1. Providence Ventures, launched in 2014, is led by Aaron Martin, an ex-Amazon executive.
2. While with Amazon, he built the company's print on-demand and self-publishing business for Kindle North America, according to the report.
3. Providence also hired Mike McSherry, the former CEO of Swype. Swype developed a mobile keyboard. Mr. McSherry is now serving as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Providence.
4. Providence Ventures aims to foster ideas to improve healthcare service and reduce costs.
