Epic Systems has officially launched its "App Orchard," an app store it first announced two years ago.
The App Orchard provides a marketplace for third-party developers to showcase pre-approved reporting, visualization and content apps to Epic customers. It also offers a space for developers to access Epic's application program interfaces and technical support from Epic developers.
Epic's goal is to assist external developers who are interested in building applications that run on the company's software infrastructure. Sumit Rana, senior vice president at Epic, told Xconomy that the App Orchard is meant to create a "very developer-friendly and open experience" for software development. He added that "more than 1,000 different companies have set up connections to Epic's software."
The app store, which was initially branded as "App Exchange," was announced in February 2015. It was renamed "App Orchard" later that year, according to a trademark filing.
