Cerner has the largest global EMR hospital market share outside of the U.S., with almost double the number of hospitals under contract as the second-largest vendor, MV, according to a KLAS report.
For the "Global EMR Market Share 2017" report, KLAS analyzed hospital contracts signed between Jan. 1, 2016, and Dec. 31, 2016. The report considered more than 115 EMR decisions from 238 hospitals, including providers selecting a first-time EMR, replacing their current vendor or adding a hospital to an existing contract.
Here's how five major EMR vendors stacked up.
1. The majority of hospitals using Allscripts are based in North America and Oceania. In 2016, the vendor signed new standalone contracts in Asia and Europe and new multihospital contracts in Latin America.
2. The majority of hospitals using Cerner are based in Europe. The vendor won new standalone and multihospital contracts in Europe and new standalone and hospital add-on contracts in the Middle East/Africa region last year.
3. The majority of hospitals using Epic are based in Europe. Among higher-cost EMRs, Epic was the preferred vendor for new contracts last year, capturing standalone and multihospital deals in Europe, North America and the Middle East/Africa region.
4. The majority of hospitals using InterSystems are based in Europe. Among lower-cost EMRs, InterSystems was the preferred vendor. The company reported new standalone and multihospital contracts in Asia, Europe and the Middle East/Africa region in 2016.
5. The majority of hospitals using Meditech are based in North America. It captured new standalone and multihospital contracts in Latin America last year.
