The Department of Veterans Affairs has suspended a $624 million contract awarded to Epic Systems and Lockheed Martin to develop an appointment scheduling system for the department, reports Politico.
Epic and Lockheed Martin won the bid for the five-year contract in August 2015, but Politico reports Epic has yet to receive any payments from the VA. Instead, the VA is reportedly testing homegrown solutions, which the it could choose to implement instead of the commercial solutions if the tests go well.
"This decision is a dramatic about-face," Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.), chair of the House Veterans Affairs Committee's oversight and investigations committee, said in prepared remarks, according to Politico.
