At Health Datapalooza last week in Washington, D.C., former National Coordinator for Health IT Farzad Mostashari, MD, introduced a new campaign to secure patients online access to their digital health records.
The campaign, "Data Independence Day," seeks to grow and shed light on consumer demand for access to health information, according to a MedCity News report.
Part of the campaign includes a petition housed at getmyhealthdata.org, where consumers can sign their names to demonstrate interest and support in being able to view their records.
"By signing this petition you are expressing your interest in getting your own health records electronically, so you can have an easier time managing your health and care, or caring for someone you love," reads the getmyhealthdata.org website.
The website also states that demonstrating demand is the best way to show the industry that individuals care about electronic access to their health information.
