Children's Mercy Hospital investigating data breach affecting 238 patients

Kansas City, Mo.-based Children's Mercy Hospital has reported a data breach affecting 238 patients after paper records were stolen from an employee's vehicle, reports KTTN.

A statement from the hospital indicates a "locked, hard-sided case" containing "limited information" was stolen. The statement shared by KTTN indicates the records did not include: addresses, Social Security numbers or financial information.

The theft reportedly happened Aug. 4.

"We are very sensitive to these families' concerns and have apologized to them," according to the hospital statement. "We are working to take all practicable steps to resolve this situation, including making identity protection services available to the families."
