Cerner revenue climbs 30%, bookings reach all-time high in FY 2015

Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner reported significant revenue growth during fiscal year 2015 that ended Jan. 2, reaching $4.43 billion, a 30 percent increase from FY 2014's $3.4 billion.

Additionally, the EHR vendor reported $539 million in profit for FY 2015, up a slight 2.6 percent from the previous year's $525 million.

Cerner reported growth in bookings over the year, as well. While the fourth quarter bookings reached $1.16 billion, which fell short of the company's guidance, bookings for the full year reached an all-time high of $5.43 billion. The full year bookings were up 28 percent from FY 2014's $4.25 billion.

"2015 was by far the best year in our history from a new business standpoint," said Zane Burke, president of Cerner, on an earnings conference call. "Our success is driven by several factors. We are much better in key areas because of our [research and development] investments in the past five years. We have invested more than $2 billion in R&D and focused on population health, physician and clinician experience, revenue cycle…and open platform mobility."

Mr. Burke also discussed Cerner's population health platform, which he said has undergone serious growth. In 2015, 85 clients selected Cerner's HealtheIntent population health platform, including several systems that use a different primary EHR, such as Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System.

Finally, Mr. Burke provided an update on Cerner Chairman and CEO Neal Patterson, who earlier this year revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer. He said the initial treatments have gone well.

"[Mr. Patterson] is appreciative of the well wishes from associates, cients and investors, and is pleased with the excellent care he has received," Mr. Burke said.
