On Dec. 3, Ireland's Maternal & Newborn Clinical Management System went live in Cork (Ireland) University Maternity Hospital.
Ireland's Health Service Executive has a contract with Cerner to deploy the MN-CMS in 19 maternity units throughout the country over three years.
"Cerner is proud to be partnered with the HSE in the creation of this new system, which has been designed and built with extensive Irish clinical input and [is] specific to the needs of Ireland's population and clinical community," said Cerner Ireland General Manager Matthew Pickett. "This first implementation in Cork is an exciting step toward a national digitized healthcare system."
With the implementation, numerous "digital" babies — newborns who have their own health record from birth — have been born all over the country. One of Ireland's first digital babies is Emily, who arrived at Cork University Maternity Hospital Dec. 3 and weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces.
