CDC Foundation, Anthem unveil education app to decrease birth defects

The CDC Foundation has unveiled a free health education app, funded through a CDC Foundation collaboration with Anthem.

The Show Your Love app emphasizes preconception health, or the health of women and men during their reproductive years. The app is part of the CDC's "Show Your Love" campaign, which aims to increase the number of women who plan and engage in healthy behaviors before becoming pregnant, in an effort to reduce the number of birth defects.

The campaign encourages healthy behaviors such as smoking cessation, physical activity, healthy food choices and controlling medical conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.

"Many women have questions about how to plan for pregnancy," said Judith Monroe, MD, president and CEO of the CDC Foundation. "The new Show Your Love app fills the knowledge gap empowering women with tools and resources to protect their health and the health of their future family."
