Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific launched an innovation contest seeking submissions that advance the use of remote patient monitoring to improve patient care.
The Boston Scientific Connected Patient Challenge asks clinicians, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs to submit ideas to both improve care and reduce healthcare costs through remote patient monitoring technologies, including wearables or implantable devices.
"We firmly believe in the power of contests like these to produce game-changing technologies that can help transform the way healthcare is delivered," said David Knapp, PhD, vice president of corporate research at Boston Scientific.
The manufacturer is accepting submissions through Medstro, an online social networking site for physicians.
Contest finalists will present their ideas in Cambridge, Mass., to an audience of challenge sponsors, fellow participants and a live audience. Challenge winners will receive a portion of $25,000 to help develop or pilot their ideas.
"Collaboration and open innovation are at the core of Boston Scientific's vision for the future of healthcare," Dr. Knapp said. "By combining our industry leadership with Medstro's vibrant online community and collaborative competition platform, we hope to inspire the next generation of digital health solutions."
Entrants have until Jan. 5, 2016 to submit their ideas.
