A new American Academy of Family Physicians initiatives aims to remind practitioners there is still time for Congress to stop the presses on meaningful use stage three if enough clinicians express concern, even though CMS and the ONC have issued the final ruling.
The 'Speak Out' tool enables family physicians to make clear to their representatives their concerns about MU3. AAFP expects the messages to have an impact in Washington, D.C., where more than 100 House members have already asked for a delay.
"The meaningful use program has departed from its original goals and has devolved into a clunky and complicated process, undermined by interoperability, growing administrative burdens and unrealistic incentive requirements," the AAFP's message to legislators reads. "Today, we find ourselves at a pivotal point in the healthcare transformation process and it is essential that we make choices that facilitate transformation and avoid those that present obstacles."
