Healthcare employee turnover was 19.2 percent in 2015, according to a Compensation Data Healthcare survey. With employees coming and going, privacy and security compliance can be affected.
Here are five things to know about employee turnover and the impact on health IT, according to an Executive Insight article.
1. Employee turnover comes with hard and soft costs. Hard costs include separation, recruitment and onboarding, according to the report. Soft costs include pressure on remaining staff members and disrupted workflow.
2. Each time an employee leaves a healthcare organization, IT leadership must ensure system access is terminated and any information loopholes are closed to maintain a secure environment, according to the report.
3. Human resources can work with IT leadership to ensure strong information governance policies are in place for incoming and outgoing employees.
4. A people-smart IT checklist can help organizations ensure continuity of security and privacy during employee transitions. Such a checklist would include all applications an employee had access to and used.
5. Additionally, the report recommends notifying all software vendors and business associates when there is an employee change.
