Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner revealed more information about its new $4.5 billion Innovations Campus, reports the Kansas City Business Journal.
Here are four updates.
1. The campus officially has an address. Cerner's Innovations Campus will be located at 8779 Hillcrest Road in Kansas City. The address compliments the company's history, since it was founded in 1979 and went public in 1987. The number 8779 also plays to the Innovations Campus' initial name, the Trails Campus. When 8779 is converted to Unicode it creates a symbol (≋) that resembles three trails.
2. The campus' main thoroughfare, Hillcrest Road, will split in two. Hillcrest will divide into two streets: Information Technology and Health Care. These names symbolize Cerner's mission, according to Cerner COO Mike Nill.
"This will be a daily reminder of our purpose and passion," said Mr. Nill. "Each element of this campus will reflect our culture and focus. The naming and numbering is a unique way to share the history of healthcare and translate the language of technology for our visitors and associates."
3. There will be 15 streets on the campus' road system. Each street will be named after a healthcare or technology leader. Nightingale Road will pay tribute to Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, while Lovelace Road will commemorate Ada Lovelace, the world' first computer programmer.
4. The campus' buildings will commemorate the importance of computer technology. The buildings on the Innovations Campus will typically be located in pairs. The first two builds on the campus will be numbered 1024, which is the number of bytes in one kilobyte.
