The global cybersecurity workforce shortage will reach 1.8 million by 2020, up 20 percent from 2015, according to a Frost & Sullivan report.
Frost & Sullivan conducted the report with the support of (ISC)2, Booz Allen Hamilton and Alta Associates. The organizations surveyed more than 19,000 cybersecurity professionals across the globe.
Here are five survey insights.
1. Two-thirds of information security workers said their organization does not have enough employees to address current cyberthreats.
2. The majority (68 percent) of workers in North America attributed the workforce shortage to lack of qualified applicants.
3. In total, 70 percent of employers said they are looking to increase the size of their cybersecurity staff this year.
4. One-third of hiring managers across the globe said they plan to increase the size of their cybersecurity staff by at least 15 percent.
5. Thirty percent of healthcare hiring managers said they plan to increase the size of their cybersecurity staff by more than 20 percent, with an additional 9 percent reporting they expect to increase their staff by between 16 percent and 20 percent.
