Forty-nine rural hospitals in Georgia are eligible for donations under a new state program that will provide up to $50 million in tax credits to individuals and corporations in 2017 that donate money to struggling rural hospitals.
Under the three-year program, donations of up to $4 million are eligible for the tax credits. The program provides up to $60 million in tax credits in 2018, and up to $70 million in 2019, according to Georgia Health News.
Rural hospitals across the nation are facing financial challenges, and the tax credit program will help provide some relief to rural facilities in Georgia.
According to research from the North Carolina Rural Health Research Program, six rural hospitals in Georgia have closed since 2010.
