Study ranks 10 best, worst states for insurance price, value

GoBankingRates conducted a study that compared insurance plans offered on the Affordable Care Act exchanges in each state to see which states' residents paid the most for healthcare, and what they're getting for their money.

The study compared and ranked the lowest-cost silver tier plans for each state according to favorability of the following cost factors: monthly premium, deductible, emergency care co-pay and primary physician co-pay.

The following states were found to have the highest premiums, as well as the highest co-insurance rates and co-pays. 

  1. New York
  2. Vermont
  3. South Carolina
  4. Alabama
  5. New Jersey
  6. Mississippi
  7. Oklahoma
  8. Indiana
  9. Delaware
  10. Wyoming

The following states stood out as offering higher value coverage because they charged lower premiums as well as lower coinsurance rates and co-pays. 

  1. New Mexico
  2. Utah
  3. California
  4. Texas
  5. Pennsylvania
  6. Michigan
  7. District of Columbia
  8. Hawaii
  9. Oregon
  10. Idaho
