Sanford Health saw revenue increase in its fiscal year 2016, but the Sioux Falls, S.D.-based system's operating surplus dipped 33.2 percent year over year.
Sanford Health recorded revenue of $4.2 billion in the12 months that ended June 30, compared to revenue of $3.7 billion in the same period of the year prior, according to unaudited bondholder documents.
The system saw expenses rise 16.3 percent year over year to $4.1 billion in FY 2016, driven by costs related to salaries and benefits, purchased services, supplies and medical claims.
Sanford Health ended FY 2016 with an operating gain of $130 million, down from an operating surplus of $195 million in the year prior.
After accounting for investment income, Sanford Health reported net income of $142.2 million in FY 2016, down 15.9 percent from the year prior.
