RCM tip of the day: With landlines vanishing, ask how to reach patients

Reaching out to patients is a necessary step in the collections process, but how to reach patients is changing.

Ann Garnier, COO of CarePayment: The FCC's latest rules under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) target unwanted spam texts and robocalls sent to consumer cell phone numbers. Considering 45 percent of American homes have disconnected their landlines and only use cell phones, knowing just who and with what technology you or your service provider are calling is challenging, but more critical than ever. Review procedures for collecting and using patient phone numbers and determine how/if residential and cell phone numbers are delineated on collection forms. Understand how the numbers will be used and confirm this use complies with the TCPA.
