RCM tip of the day: Communicate effectively between the physician practice revenue cycle and the hospital revenue cycle

As hospitals and physician practices prepare to implement the final rule for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, it is crucial to ensure a smooth revenue cycle management transition.

Christopher Kerns, a leader of Advisory Board's flagship research membership program, the Health Care Advisory Board: There needs to be a process by which the inpatient, outpatient and physician revenue cycles can communicate with one another. It does not necessarily mean they need to be part of the same infrastructure and that you need to have revenue cycle staff that can do both professional and hospital-based coding, but it does mean that they need to have the ability to connect with each other on a regular basis.
