Premier Health to enter insurance business

Dayton, Ohio-based Premier Health has announced plans to venture into the individual health insurance, group insurance and Medicare Advantage market, according to a Dayton Daily News report.

Premier, the largest hospital network in the Dayton region, will offer individual coverage through Ohio's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace starting next year, with enrollment beginning this November. Additionally, the health system will offer group and individual plans and Medicare Advantage plans outside of the PPACA marketplace. The new offerings will expand on the health plan Premier already operates for its employees, according to the report.

Mike Maiberger, senior vice president of value-based services at Premier, told the News entering the commercial insurance space will advance the organization's goal of expanding healthcare and coverage. Premier's health plan will be a separate business unit, and its network will include more than 3,300 providers, according to the report.
