North Philadelphia Health System is consolidating operations and will close 146-bed St. Joseph's Hospital in Philadelphia in March, according to a CBS Philadelphia report.
NPHS consists of two hospitals, including St. Joseph's. The health system plans to base its operations out of Girard Medical Center, a 168-bed long-term acute care hospital in Philadelphia, after it closes St. Joseph's. NPHS said it expects to close St. Joseph's March 31, according to the report.
The hospital closure will affect hundreds of St. Joseph's employees. Up to 675 workers may be laid off as a result of the hospital shutting down, according to a statement released by NPHS. The health system said it will offer job placement assistance and job counseling over the next 90 days to employees affected by the closure.
