Penn State Health St. Joseph, based in Reading, Pa., plans to close its outpatient practice in Elverson, Pa., according to a Reading Eagle report.
The closure is expected to take place in September.
Penn State Health St. Joseph spokesman Michael Jupina attributed the closure to the fact that the outpatient facility, which opened about 12 years ago, did not provide enough referrals to St. Joseph services in Pennsylvania's Berks County to stay open.
"When you look at where it is geographically, it's in Chester County and in terms of hospital services, it's a good 40-minute ride away," he said, according to the report. "This was a decision made because it doesn't fit our strategy."
He noted that most of the employees working at the Elverson site will be offered jobs at other St. Joseph locations.
