New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian held a beam signing ceremony Feb. 22 to mark the installation of the final beam in the David H. Koch Center, a new ambulatory care facility that was supported by a $100 million gift from David H. Koch.
The new facility is expected to open in 2018.
Steven J. Corwin, MD, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian, Laura L. Forese, MD, the health network's COO and Laurie H. Glimcher, MD, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of New York City-based Weill Cornell Medicine, were in attendance.
Located in Manhattan's Upper East Side, the David H. Koch Center is designed to provide patients with high-quality, personalized healthcare in a comfortable and technologically sophisticated setting. The 750,000-square-foot facility will offer a range of services, including multidisciplinary care for digestive diseases, cancer, eye disease and other conditions, as well as outpatient surgery, interventional radiology, diagnostic imaging, preadmissions testing and a wellness center. The Alexandra & Steven Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns will be housed in the David H. Koch Center, occupying the top six floors.
Mr. Koch is an executive vice president and a board member of Koch Industries, and serves as chairman of the board and CEO of Koch Chemical Technology Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries. He has been a member of NewYork-Presbyterian's board of trustees since 1988. He currently chairs the board's development committee and sits on its real estate committee.
A long-time philanthropist and cancer survivor, Mr. Koch has donated to a variety of cultural and medical organizations and programs. In his lifetime, he and the David H. Koch Charitable Foundation have pledged or contributed nearly $1.2 billion to cancer research, medical centers, educational institutes, arts and cultural institutions and to assist public policy organizations.
