Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health posted a $3.5 million operating gain in the first quarter of fiscal 2015, compared to a $421,000 operating loss in the same period a year ago, according to a Buffalo Business First report.
The system reported operating revenue of $334 million in the first quarter, compared to $315 million in the same period of the year prior.
Kaleida's expenses related to salary and wages were higher than anticipated at $140.5 million, up 5.4 percent from the same period of last year. However, the system did achieve savings with some of its expense lines, as purchased services costs were down 5 percent, utilities were down 35 percent, and insurance expenses were down 6.4 percent in the first quarter of fiscal 2015.
Kaleida finished the first quarter with net income of $8.4 million, up from $3.3 million in the comparable period of last year, according to the report.
