Net income at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente increased by 25 percent in the second quarter of 2014 to $1 billion.
Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and all other subsidiaries within Kaiser Permanente reported combined total operating revenue of $14 billion for the three months ended June 30, up 5.3 percent from $13.3 billion in the second quarter of 2013.
For the six months ended June 30, Kaiser reported net income of $2.1 billion, an increase of 40 percent from $1.5 billion during the first six months of 2013. Total operating revenue during the first six months of this year went up by 5.7 percent year-over-year to $27.9 billion.
As of June 30, Kaiser has 9.5 million members. Membership has increased by 386,600 since Dec. 31.
