Although Miami-based Jackson Health System projected a $12.5 million profit for fiscal year 2015 at the beginning of the year, it has obtained a $58.4 million profit for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, according to South Florida Business Journal.
The results top Jackson's FY 2014 profit of $31.4 million.
The system reported operating revenue of $1.25 billion, which exceeded its budget by 7 percent.
Although Jackson budgeted for an uninsured patient base of 15.2 percent, only 13.9 percent of the patients it saw didn't have health coverage.
The system looks ahead to building a new hospital, a new rehabilitation center and multiple urgent care centers. "We have reached a major point in Jackson's history," said Carlos Migoya, president and CEO, in a letter to county officials. "For the first time, we have the foundation we need to look beyond our current operations and build a track to our best future."
