Louisville, Ky.-based Humana has sent letters to its customers in Florida informing them Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America hospitals in the state will no longer be part of Humana's network as of July 10, according to a Health News Florida report.
Humana and HCA have failed to reach an agreement on a new contract, and the federal government requires insurers to inform members 30 days before a contract expires, according to the report.
This is not a final decision, as the parties still have time to work out their differences. J.C. Sadler, an HCA spokeswoman, told Health News Florida that HCA is "optimistic it will be worked out."
However, if Humana and HCA fail to reach a new agreement before their current contract expires it will have a significant effect on Florida residents, as HCA is Florida's largest for-profit chain with 46 hospitals or surgery centers in the state.
