Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System has disclosed plans to build a $25 million behavioral health hospital about a mile east of its main Erlanger campus, according to News Channel 9.
Hospital officials are seeking permission from the state Health Services and Development Agency to build the 72,000-square-foot hospital. If approved, the new facility would employ 200 people, according to the report.
Joe Winick, Erlanger senior vice president for planning, analytics and business development, said he is confident the health system's proposal will be approved. He added that nearly 50 percent of people with mental or behavioral health conditions in the community are currently without treatment, according to the report.
Erlanger expects a decision from the Health Services and Development Agency by the end of June. If approved, the new facility could open by the end of 2017.
