Last year, Congress passed legislation to reduce Medicare provider-based reimbursements at outpatient facilities and eliminate the reimbursements at off-campus hospital facilities acquired after Nov. 2, 2016.
While it is clear Congress has set its sights on reducing provider-based reimbursement as a means to reduce overall Medicare spending, there is still an opportunity for organizations to advocate for change, reports JD Supra.
In light of criticism and other negative feedback received from the provider community, several members of Congress from the committee on energy and commerce have requested formal input from stakeholders affected by the provider-based reimbursement provision.
CMS plans to release its proposed Bipartisan Budget Act-related guidance in July 2016. CMS is encouraging providers to submit comments and feedback to CMS on implementation of the BBA prior to the release of its proposed rule.
