About 9.9 million consumers had paid their premiums and had an active health insurance policy by June 30, according to CMS data released Sept. 8.
The numbers are consistent with HHS' effectuated enrollment target of 9.1 million by the end of 2015.
Of the 9.9 million consumers with active marketplace enrollments at the end of June, about 84 percent, or over 8.3 million consumers, were receiving an advanced premium tax credit. The average APTC for those qualified enrollees was $270 per month.
Approximately 7.2 million consumers were enrolled through the 37 federally facilitated marketplaces and supported state-based marketplaces, while 2.7 million consumers were enrolled through the remaining state-based marketplaces.
The first marketplace enrollment snapshot, released June 2, covered enrollment through March 31 and showed that 10.2 million consumers had effectuated coverage.
"Millions of Americans are benefiting from the peace of mind that comes with having quality coverage at a price they can afford as they access coverage through the Affordable Care Act's marketplace," said HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
