Miami-based Baptist Health South Florida reported net income of $36.1 million for the three months that ended March 31, down 55 percent from the comparable period last year, according to the system's recently released unaudited financial statement.
Here are four key points from Baptist Health's second-quarter financials:
1. Baptist Health reported revenue of $582.2 million, up from $545.7 million in the same period of 2014.
2. The system posted net patient service revenue of $565.3 million, compared to net patient service revenue of $532.2 million a year ago.
3. Baptist Health's total expenses for the second quarter increased to $576 million, up from $519.3 million in the same period of 2014. The system's expansion of its cardiac facility in Kendall, Fla., and the building and staffing of a new cancer center, which is set to open next year, attributed to Baptist Health's increase in expenses in the second quarter, according to a Miami Herald report.
4. The system reported operating income of $6.3 million, down from $26.4 million in the comparable period of 2014.
