3 things to know about Cleveland Clinic's plan for Lakewood Hospital

Numerous changes are planned for Cleveland Clinic's Lakewood Hospital after the Lakewood City Council voted unanimously last month to close the facility and replace it with a Cleveland Clinic health center and 24-hour emergency department, according to a Fox 8 report.

Here are three things to know about the transition plan.

1. Cleveland Clinic plans to end inpatient services at Lakewood Hospital Feb. 5, according to Fox 8. However, the existing ED and certain outpatient services such as radiology, lab services, cardiovascular testing and the diabetes center, will continue to be offered at the hospital while the family health center is built.

2. Construction on the new $34 million family health center is expected to begin later in 2016, with an opening in 2018.

3. According to Fox 8, All 860 Lakewood Hospital employees will be offered jobs within the Cleveland Clinic system, with about 200 of them remaining at the facility during the transition.
