2 HSHS Wisconsin hospitals close

Chippewa Falls, Wis.-based St. Joseph's Hospital and Eau Claire, Wis.-based Sacred Heart Hospital, both part of Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System, have closed, a spokesperson for HSHS confirmed with Becker's on March 22.

The health system shared plans to close the two hospitals in late January, along with multiple regional health centers HSHS operates with Green Bay, Wis.-based Prevea Health.

Both hospitals were originally set to close on or before April 21.

"While the March closure of Sacred Heart is sooner than originally announced, our decision is based on our top priority: our commitment to maintain safe, quality care for our patients,"John Wagner, president and CEO of the hospitals, said in the March 11 news release.

The regional health clinics will end patient care services April 21. Prevea's Western Wisconsin residency clinics and its UW-Stout location will remain open through June 30.
