UConn Health debuts new $318M tower: 3 things to know

UConn Health, based in Farmington, Conn., has opened its new 11-floor, $318 million tower at UConn John Dempsey Hospital.

Here are three things to know about the tower.

1. The tower features a post-anesthesia care unit with both dedicated areas for temporary pre-surgical patient care and post-surgical patient recovery.

2. It also features an operating suite with 600-square-foot operating rooms, including three general surgery rooms, two heart surgery rooms (with one available 24/7), two total joint orthopaedic surgery rooms and one general orthopedic surgery room. There are also two 800-square-foot dedicated operating rooms for both neurosurgery and spine surgery.

3. According to an Associated Press report published by Fox 61, the tower is also home to the hospital's oncology and cardiac step-down units, as well as a 40-bed emergency department.
