In a $51 million proposed expansion, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago hopes to increase its number of intensive-care beds by nearly 50 percent, according to CBS News.
The hospital has proposed to add 44 intensive-care beds to its existing 92. It also wants to add four neonatal intensive care beds for a total of 64, according to the report.
If approved by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, the expansion project could be completed by the end of January 2019.
Hospital officials said they would renovate existing space to accommodate the new beds.
