Cleveland Clinic's Crile Building lost power for several hours Monday afternoon due to short circuiting in the facility's basement wiring.
During the shortage, the emergency power system switched on to light up all hallways and most rooms, said Angela Smith, spokeswoman for Cleveland Clinic. Emergency elevators were also functioning, although all other elevators were out of order.
The Crile Building, located on the clinic's main campus, contains physicians' offices and procedure rooms for minor surgeries. On a typical day, physicians see hundreds of patients at the facility.
While most patient appointments were cancelled for the rest of the day, Ms. Smith said a handful of procedures were still completed after the main power failed.
The shortage occurred at 1:30 p.m. and power was restored at 5:45 p.m.
