8 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities. 

1. Donation from former patient allows Danbury Hospital to transform cardiac operating room
Danbury (Conn.) Hospital will transform its existing cardiac operating room into a multifunctional cardiovascular surgical suite after a donation from former patient Yoriko McClure.

2. Baton Rouge General plans new hospital and $40M expansion
Baton Rouge (La.) General Medical Center is planning to construct a new $30 million hospital in Prairieville, La., and complete a $40 million expansion of its existing critical care tower at Bluebonnet Hospital in Baton Rouge.

3. Kindred to convert long-term care hospital into inpatient rehabilitation facility
Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare, in partnership with Indianapolis-based Community Health Network, will convert Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South, a 60-bed long-term care facility, into a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital.

4. Banner Health opens 3 clinics at Arizona grocery stores
Phoenix-based Banner Health will open retail-based clinics in three Safeway grocery stores in Arizona in hopes of improving healthcare access and affordability.

5. Hannibal Regional Hospital starts $61M expansion
Hannibal (Mo.) Regional Hospital started its $61 million project that includes construction of a new medical office building and renovations to parts of the hospital.

6. New Jersey hospital to open ED blocks from rival hospital after state approval
The New Jersey Department of Health approved Jersey City  (N.J.) Medical Center's proposal to open a satellite emergency department approximately six blocks from CarePoint Health's Bayonne (N.J) Medical Center, which is a competitor.

7. University Hospital in San Antonio plans $390M expansion
University Hospital in San Antonio, owned by University Health System, plans to build a $390 million women and children's inpatient tower on South Texas Medical Center Campus in San Antonio.

8. Florida approves UCF's 100-bed teaching hospital
Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration gave final approval for the University of Central Florida in Orlando and Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare's proposal to build a 100-bed teaching hospital near UCF's medical school.
