6 hospitals planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities. 

1. Mayo Clinic plans $70.5M expansion in Jacksonville
Rochester, Min.-based Mayo Clinic is planning a $70.5 million expansion to its Jacksonville, Fla., campus as part of its effort to become a top destination medical center in the Southeast, according to the Jacksonville Business Journal.

2. St. David's South Austin Medical Center plans $58M expansion
St. David's South Austin (Texas) Medical Center will begin construction in mid 2017 on a $58 million expansion, reports American Statesman.

3. Russell Regional Hospital breaks ground on physicians' clinic
Russell (Kansas) Regional Hospital broke ground on a physicians' clinic and expansion of its physical therapy services March 3, according to a Hays Post report.

4. UNC Rex Health Care to open $235M heart hospital
Raleigh, N.C.-based UNC Rex Health Care opened an eight-story, $235 million heart hospital Monday, according to The News & Observer.

5. Cleveland Clinic opens $276M cancer center
Cleveland Clinic's Taussig Cancer Center began accepting patients March 6. The new 377,000-square-foot facility, estimated to cost $276 million, will house all outpatient cancer treatment services.

6. Augusta University Medical Center to build $150M hospital
Augusta (Ga.) University Medical Center unveiled plans to build a 100-bed hospital as part of a $150 million investment in one of Georgia's biggest counties still lacking a hospital, according to an Atlanta Business Journal report.
