1. NY state department approves CON for new St. James Mercy Hospital
The New York State Department of Health on May 19 approved St. James Mercy Hospital's certificate of need application for the construction of a new hospital and the implementation of a new EMR system, reports The Evening Tribune.
2. $323M Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center to open in June
Officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication for the $323 million Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center Tuesday. The cancer center was the result of a collaboration between the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine, both in Omaha, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
3. Erlanger to break ground on new children's hospital June 6
Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Children's Hospital at Erlanger Outpatient Center in Chattanooga on June 6, according to TheChattanoogan.com.
4. Construction commences on Lutheran outpatient facility
Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network started construction on its outpatient center in Wabash, Ind., according to Inside Indiana Business.
5. Saint Clare's Health to turn former hospital into urgent care facility
Saint Clare's Health System plans to reduce services at its health center in Sussex, N.J., according to a New Jersey Herald report. As part of the change, the health center, which was once a hospital and currently serves as a satellite emergency and outpatient center, will become an urgent and primary care facility.
6. UNC Hospitals seeks to add 32 beds to Hillsborough campus
Chapel Hill-based University of North Carolina Hospitals on May 19 asked state regulators for permission to add 32 beds to its Hillsborough campus, which opened in 2015 and has undergone expansions ever since, reports The News & Observer.
7. Baylor Scott & White plans 4-story hospital near Austin
Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White is eyeing a former golf course in Oak Hills, Texas, as the possible site for a 50-bed hospital, according to an Austin-American Statesman report.
8. UPMC Chautauqua WCA breaks ground on maternity, mental health expansion
Jamestown, N.Y.-based UPMC Chautauqua WCA on May 19 broke ground on an 18,000-square-foot addition to house maternity and psychiatric services, according to The Post-Journal.
9. MidMichigan Health to build $57M cardiovascular center in Midland
MidMichigan Health is planning a $57 million, 160,000-square-foot cardiovascular center in Midland, Mich., according to the Midland Daily News.
10. Tulane unveiling $1.1M clinic for former pro athletes
New Orleans-based Tulane Health System has opened a $1.1 million clinic for former professional athletes, according to The News & Observer.
11. Orlando Health to build free-standing ER, medical pavilion in Lake Mary
Orlando Health will embark on a $42 million expansion project that will include a free-standing emergency department and medical pavilion in Lake Mary, Fla., according to the Orlando Sentinel.
