80% of Change Healthcare restored after cyberattack

Change Healthcare has reinstated 80% of the functionality for its claims, payment and pharmacy services following a February ransomware attack, the company said.

Those three areas represent most of Change Healthcare's customers and continue to be restored, according to an April 16 earnings call from parent company UnitedHealth Group.

"Now we've still got work to do," said Roger Connor, CEO of OptumInsight, the UnitedHealth unit that includes Change, during the call. "We've got another set of products coming online ... in the coming weeks, but pleased with that progress."

Change Healthcare has been restoring IT systems since taking them offline following the February cyberattack that disrupted claims and pharmacy processing for health systems and providers across the country. Change handles about 15 billion healthcare transactions a year.

Mr. Connor said on the call that Change has also been adding functionality to bring its products back even "stronger" than before the hack and retain customers that may have left for other clearinghouse platforms.

"This has been a heavy lift and we're going to continue that work," he said. "But that's why we're confident in getting back to that baseline performance in 2025."
