St. Louis-based SSM Health will institute an $11 minimum hourly wage that will go into effect beginning in January 2017.
The wage increase will effect 3.5 percent of SSM Health's total workforce, or 1,100 employees throughout Missouri, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Illinois. Positions impacted by the raise include transporters, aides, dietary and environmental services workers and receptionists.
Currently, the federal hourly minimum wage is between $7.25 and $8.25 in SSM Health's four states.
"As a mission- and values-driven organization, we are committed to providing strong market-based wages and benefits for all our employees, with special consideration for those who are most economically vulnerable," said SSM Health President and CEO William Thompson in a statement. "We value all of our employees and the incredible work they do on behalf of those we serve, and we believe providing a fair and socially just minimum wage is the right thing to do."
