LifePoint Hospitals CEO Bill Carpenter Earns More Than $7.7M in 2011

The total compensation of Bill Carpenter, chairman and CEO of Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals, reached $7.73 million in 2011 — a 5.5 percent drop from the $8.15 million he made in 2010, according to documents from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Mr. Carpenter's base salary inched ahead, from $940,000 in 2010 to $968,500 in 2011. He also received more than $3.65 million in restricted stock awards, $1.95 million in stock option awards and roughly $1.16 million in other bonuses and incentives.

LifePoint President and COO David Dill was the second-highest-paid executive at $3.44 million in total compensation. This included a $600,000 base salary, $648,000 in bonuses and more than $2.19 million in stock and option awards.

Jeffrey Sherman, CFO of LifePoint, recorded total compensation of $2.72 million. His base salary was $475,000, and he received more than $1.1 million in restricted stock awards, $708,000 in stock option awards and $427,500 in other incentives.

LifePoint executives received the compensation in calendar year 2011, and figures were based on results from 2010. LifePoint has not awarded discretionary cash bonuses to any of the primary executives in the past three years, and no base salary exceeds $1 million.
