Parkview LaGrange (Ind.) Hospital temporarily closed Aug. 25 due to an air conditioning outage that's expected to last 48 hours.
The critical access hospital, part of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Parkview Health, transferred all inpatients to other facilities. All surgeries and procedures have also been rescheduled.
The hospital's medical clinics remain open, as the outage did not affect its medical office building. Officials have also set up a temporary emergency department in the building for individuals who come to the hospital seeking emergency care.
The outage comes as an extreme heatwave blankets the Midwest. As of Aug. 25, most of Indiana is under an excessive heat warning, according to the National Weather Service.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and will notify the public when full services resume," Parkview said in a statement on its website.
