UCSF Medical Center has made several commitments to sustainability, including buying reusable medical devices and reusable pillows, thus producing less medical waste and saving money, and changing menus to include 26 percent sustainably grown items. Even its building is designed for sustainability: The USCF Medical Center at Mission Bay, which opened its doors to patients in February 2015, obtained LEED Gold certification. Practice Greenhealth awarded UCSF Medical Center/UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital as one of the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award winners in 2015 and 2016.
