Mission Hospital (Asheville, N.C.). Mission Hospital is part of Mission Health, the region's only nonprofit, independent community hospital system governed and managed exclusively in western North Carolina. Mission features a 14-bed neuro-trauma intensive care unit and a 36-bed dedicated neuroscience unit and stroke center. The hospital has received recognition for excellence in treating stroke patients, receiving the America's 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care Award from Healthgrades for the last three years. Organizations have also recognized Mission Hospital for excellence in neurosurgery: CareChex named it one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation for neurological surgery in its most recent ratings, and Healthgrades has given it the Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence Award in 2015 and 2016.
