Hartford HealthCare, Aetna reach in-network deal

Aetna members will maintain in-network access to Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare after the payer and provider renewed a contract set to expire in three months, Eyewitness News 3 reports.

The new three-year contract is effective Jan. 1. The Hartford-based payer's commercial, employer-based and Medicare Advantage members are included in the agreement, which comprises five Connecticut hospitals: Hartford Hospital, The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, MidState Medical Center in Meriden, Backus Hospital in Norwich and Willimantic-based Windham Hospital.

The agreement comes as Hartford HealthCare and Indianapolis-based Anthem failed to negotiate a new in-network agreement by a Sept. 30 deadline. Tens of thousands of Anthem members are now out-of-network with the five hospitals listed above.
