Hawaii will receive $58 million through the Rural Health Transformation Program to bolster the state’s healthcare workforce, purchase new ambulances and upgrade emergency communications systems.
Hawaii will distribute $45 million to the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine to support workforce development programs. The Hawaii Department of Health will use the remaining $13 million to acquire ambulances for every county and modernize emergency communications, according to a Sept. 1 news release.
The $58 million is part of $188,892,440 in total Rural Health Transformation Program funding Hawaii is receiving in fiscal year 2026, one slice of the $50 billion CMS is distributing nationwide through 2030.
